Inequalities experienced by Gypsies and Travellers
63, 000 people identified in the 2011 census as Gypsies or Travellers in the UK, This is believed to be a massive under estimation. This was the first time there had been a category on the census. In 2021 there will also be a category for Roma.
We will be out in the community, Supporting with completing the Census..
The largest number of Gypsies and Travellers live in the South East of England. In July 2017, there were 3,721 caravans on unauthorised sites and of these, 2,197 caravans were on land occupied by Travellers. It is thought that over 70% of the UKs Gypsies and Travellers live in bricks and mortar accommodation.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has published a number of reports highlighting the multiple inequalities experienced by Gypsies and Travellers. An EHRC review in 2015 concluded that the life chances of Gypsies and Travellers had declined since the Commission's previous review in 2010. The contributory factors are complex and often inter-related, but may include deprivation, cultural bias, social exclusion and discrimination.
